Butterfly - Francesca Matta
Francesca grew up in Sardinia, Italy, where she graduated from the Conservatoire G.P.L. da Palestrina. Over the years she performed, both in Italy and UK, roles such as Mimí, La Bohème; Elisabetta, Maria Stuarda; Contessa, Le Nozze di Figaro; Donna Elvira, Don Giovanni; Norina, Don Pasquale; Fanny, Adelson e Salvini; numerous oratorio engagements including Mozart Requiem and Exultate Jubilate, Vivaldi Gloria, Pergolesi Stabat Mater and Rossini Petite Messe Solennelle.
Pinkerton - Leonel Pinheiro
Leonel was born in Braga, Portugal. Operatic engagements include Don Jose Carmen (Regents Opera, Woodhouse Opera, Garden Opera, Riverside Opera, Shrewsbury School), Alfredo La Traviata (European Chamber Opera/Bangkok Grand Opera), Il Messaggero Aida (Royal Albert Hall), Gherardo Gianni Schicchi (Opera Holland), Luigi Il Tabarro (Grimeborn Opera Festival), Achille di Rosalba/Felice Il Cappello di Paglia di Firenze, Gastone La Traviata (Wexford Festival Opera).
Sharpless - Quentin Hayes
Quentin’s UK debut was as Figaro Barber of Seville with Glyndebourne Tour. He was Principal Artist at the Royal Opera House, where roles included Ping Turandot; Herald Lohengrin; Angelotti Tosca- Pavarotti’s last UK appearances; Schaunard La Bohème and Ned Keene Peter Grimes. A frequent artist at Wexford, he has sung Michele Il Tabarro; Scarpia Tosca; Manz A Village Romeo and Juliette; Father Palmer Silent Night; Metifio L’Arlesiana); Tom Guglielmo Ratcliffe. Last autumn he sang Shylock Merchant of Venice for WNO, for whom he will return this autumn in House of the Dead.
Suzuki - Annabella Ellis
Annabella was born in Norwich. Performances include Rosina Barber of Seville, Swansea City Opera, alto solo in Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Mercédes/Carmen cover Carmen, alto solo in Bach’s B Minor Mass, Sirene/Armida cover Rinaldo Longborough Festival Opera, Una Cercatrice Suor Angelica Dorset Opera, Drusilla/Amor L’incoronazione di Poppea, Belinda/Second Witch/Sailor Dido and Aeneas, Glyndebourne Festival Opera Chorus.
Director - Nicholas Heath
Following a full-time contract at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, Nicholas formed his own opera company Opera A La Carte in 1993 and has produced, directed and designed over 45 productions as well as devising master classes and education programmes within the UK and abroad. He left the Royal Opera House in 2006 to work on a project run by Streetwise Opera and to devote more time to Opera a la Carte. He formed Regents Opera in 2011 to extend the work of Opera A La Carte on a larger scale. He is a keen sailor and cook.
Musical Director - David Eaton
David has performed as an accompanist across the country as well as on BBC radio and television. He is a busy proponent of piano accompanied opera, has worked for many small opera companies and is a founding member of Charles Court Opera. He has conducted for Iford Arts and the Harrogate Gilbert and Sullivan Company, and is musical director of Grims Dyke Opera. David has had his own translations of Bastien and Bastienne, The Magic Flute and The Barber of Seville performed across the country.
